Remote Workers Can Get Free Arctic Housing and Coworking—But the Real Challenge Is Living There
Remote workers can apply for 1-3 months of free Arctic housing and coworking. Here's what to expect and how to prepare for similar programs.

easyJet is rolling out free Starlink Wi-Fi from 2027. Here's what digital nomads should know about working from budget flights during the transition.
easyJet announced it will begin installing free Starlink Wi-Fi across its Airbus fleet starting in the first half of 2027, with the full rollout expected to finish by early 2028. The service will be available on A320, A320neo, and A321neo aircraft, letting passengers browse, stream, message, and potentially work using their own devices, all at no extra cost.
For digital nomads who rely on European budget carriers to hop between cities, this could turn short-haul flights into usable work time. But the phased rollout means connectivity won't be guaranteed on every flight for at least the next two years.
Rollout starts: First half of 2027.
Full fleet coverage: Early 2028.
Aircraft types: A320, A320neo, A321neo only.
Because installation will happen gradually, you won't be able to count on Starlink being available just because you're flying easyJet. During the transition period, some planes will have it and others won't. The airline hasn't yet confirmed whether passengers will be able to check connectivity before booking, so assume variability if you're planning to work during a flight in 2027.
What this means for planning: If you have a client call, a launch deadline, or need to upload files on a specific travel day, don't build your schedule around in-flight Wi-Fi until the rollout is complete, or until easyJet offers a way to confirm which aircraft you'll be on.
Starlink's satellite network is known for low latency and high speed compared to traditional airline Wi-Fi, which often uses slower air-to-ground or older satellite systems. That opens up real possibilities for remote work, but not every task will be equally reliable.
Realistic work during the flight:
Email, Slack, and messaging apps should work smoothly. Cloud-based documents (Google Docs, Notion, Airtable) and light collaboration tools are likely to perform well. Browsing for research, booking onward travel, or managing admin tasks will be straightforward.
Trickier scenarios:
Video calls depend on stable bandwidth and low latency. Even with Starlink, expect occasional drops or frozen screens, especially during takeoff, landing, or turbulence. If you need to join a Zoom or Teams meeting, have a backup plan: record your updates ahead of time, dial in audio-only, or reschedule.
Large file uploads (video exports, design assets, database backups) may time out or take longer than expected. Download what you need before boarding.
Sensitive calls or screen shares involving confidential client data should be handled with caution. You're on a public connection in a crowded cabin, use a VPN and consider whether the environment is appropriate for the conversation.
Most European budget carriers either charge for Wi-Fi or don't offer it at all. When it is available, speeds are often too slow for anything beyond basic email. Starlink changes that equation.
easyJet's move is significant because it's free, it's fast, and it's being installed across an entire fleet that serves hundreds of routes across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. For nomads who fly easyJet regularly, this could mean dozens of extra productive hours per year, without paying for airport lounge day passes or losing half a day to transit.
The competition: Other airlines are exploring Starlink too, but easyJet is one of the first major European low-cost carriers to commit to a full rollout. If you're choosing between carriers for a work trip in 2028, connectivity could become a real differentiator.
Not yet, and maybe not ever, depending on your work style.
During the 2027–2028 transition, treat any in-flight connectivity as a bonus, not a guarantee. Build offline-first habits: download reference materials, draft documents locally, queue emails to send when you land, and keep a mobile hotspot or airport lounge backup for anything time-sensitive.
Even after full rollout, remember that you're working in a moving metal tube at 35,000 feet. Weather, satellite handoffs, and technical issues can interrupt service. If your deadline is tight or your client doesn't tolerate missed calls, book ground time instead.
When in-flight Wi-Fi makes sense: Catching up on async work during a two-hour flight. Staying available for urgent messages without needing to be fully "on." Turning downtime into light productivity, research, planning, inbox zero, without the pressure of real-time collaboration.
easyJet's Starlink rollout could make European budget flights genuinely useful for remote work, but only if you plan around the gaps. From 2027 through early 2028, availability will be inconsistent, so don't bet a client deadline on in-flight Wi-Fi. Treat it as a productivity boost, not a guarantee.
Once the rollout is complete, Starlink-equipped easyJet flights could become a solid option for async work, travel logistics, and staying connected without paying for premium carriers or airport lounges. Until then, keep your offline toolkit sharp and your expectations realistic.
